Frequently Asked Questions

On the Burnaby Pilot Program

Who is the program for?

The program is for students who want extra support to improve their skills, especially when life outside the classroom become more challenging. During the three weeks, you will gain accountability toward showing up to your studies and no more facing academic challenges alone.

2

What is the program about?

The program is a three-week pilot combining body doubling and coaching. We understand that lives stop beyond the classroom for students, and dealing with external stress factors may lead to procrastination and low performance. Your coach will hold the space for you while you are attending your course materials, doing their own reading or writing in the background, but available for discussion.

3

How could this be "no commitments on my end"?

We mean that we are not giving you any additional tasks to complete, only asking that you commit to yourself by showing up during our time together. We know how busy you are with schooling. When you schedule a session, you can choose to discuss a topic or ask your coach to act as a body double, holding the productive space for you while you focus on your tasks. Learn more on social facilitation in our blog.

4

What is the session like?

It is important to emphasise that this is not a counselling session, and a diagnosis will never be provided at any point. It is also not a service where papers will be written for your courses. Your academic work is yours to fulfil. Control Your Gravity provides academic support with focused progress coaching and body doubling to hold the studying space for you, preventing distractions and peer-like advice, such as practising a presentation with an audience, challenging your assignment for clarity, or sharing tips and tricks to improve on submitted work.

5

How do I schedule a session?

After reviewing your application form, you will receive an introduction Email from us with a Calendly link you could use to book your sessions at any time Sunday to Saturday and get started.

6

How long are the sessions?

The one-on-one sessions are 50 minutes long. When you want a longer time to work on multiple subjects that day, book another session.

7

How much does the program cost?

The program does not cost anything. It is free for Burnaby residents, and it is volunteering on our end.

8

Are these online sessions?

The one-on-one sessions can be held both, online or in person at the Burnaby Tommy Douglas Library.
